Workshop objectives


This five-part course aims to support new teachers and those new to special schools by providing a comprehensive overview of the strategies, resources and approaches available to ensure learners make outstanding progress. The workshops have been planned to reflect the needs of pupils in all designations. Each session will have a different focus and will be led by teachers with experience working in specialist settings.


Core themes of the programme include:       


  • Outstanding classroom practice in a specialist setting

  • Using visual resources

  • Developing communication and interaction skills

  • Differentiation

  • Classroom management

  • Assessment for learning

  • Behaviour for learning

  • Leading learning 

  • Promoting wellbeing


Target Audience

This five part course is for teaching staff that are new to a working in a special school, newly qualified teachers and those enrolled in the ITT programme.


Please Note: CLASS ITT participants at Canterbury Christ Church University are automatically enrolled on this programme. 


This year our offer will be fully digital.


The offer will comprise of 5 x 1 hour pre-recorded seminars delivered by specialists from within our KsENT Schools. These digital seminars will be stored in a shared drive and will be available from the 23rd October (delegates will be sent this information via email when they sign up). The seminars can be watched in any order, at any time.


The facilitators of the seminars will then each host an online forum, where you will be able to log in, and ask specific questions related to the content of the seminars, and receive support, feedback and advice in real time.
