Workshop objectives

The SCERTS Model is an evidence-based approach which addresses the challenges faced by persons with ASC. It focuses on collaboration and support for families and professionals. In this workshop, participants will explore how the SCERTS framework is used to support the Social and Emotional development of children with Autism and Mental Health needs in SEN settings.  Participants will consider how the theory and principles of the SCERTS approach are applied in practice, including for remote learning during this challenging time.


Core themes of the programme include:

  • Consideration of the latest developments in neurodevelopmental theory

  • What social and emotional learning looks like for pupils with SEMH needs

  • How to implement an appropriate social and emotional support framework.


Target Audience

Tier 2 courses are for experienced teaching staff (including HLTAs, teachers and school leaders) seeking to further their skills and knowledge of teaching practices in SEN settings, or those seeking opportunities for career progression. It is not suitable for trainee teachers.

Participants are expected to have prior knowledge of supporting pupils with ASD and have attended awareness level ASD training (or equivalent)
